Making this YouTube mistake is like throwing your money into a FURNACE…

Do you hate your money?

I keep seeing YouTubers making this same mistake and it’s costing them A LOT

In this email we’re going to answer the 3rd question in this series of 3 emails (you should read the previous emails if you haven’t). And I’m going to help prevent you from wasting your money.

So what’s the big money sucking mistake?

Well, let’s take a look at the question we’ll be answering:

“The top 8 most viewed videos on my channel (except the highest viewed one) are results of me (helplessly) running paid promotions on them hoping one of them would strike gold. Is this a method I should be doing with any videos besides my Channel Trailer (which I do not have yet)?”

– Sean (Gaming YouTuber)

After reading the question, you should be quite familiar with the money burning technique I’ve been referring to…

I’m talking about YouTube paid ads.

So should you use paid ads to help promote your videos?

We’ll answer that shortly, but first I want to share a story with you…

In 2015, I spent £10 on google ads. I used this to advertise my video “How To Make A Song At Home”.

What happened?

Firstly, I was able to configure the ad settings so I could get 1,000 views for £10. (This is VERY UNLIKELY to happen for you if you don’t know what you’re doing).

That was a DEAL for me…

And this wasn’t just any video, this video was an advertisement that was selling my book called “How To Make A Song At Home”.

So this was a smart investment. But how did it all play out?

Well, because I optimised the video very well using good SEO, that video is now sitting at 110,331 views on YouTube.

In my experience, if you can get a video to 1,000 views it usually has a pretty good chance to rank for your keyphrases (if you optimise it correctly).

This probably sounds very exciting to you right? Now let’s answer the question from earlier.

Should you use paid ads to help promote your videos?

No… no you shouldn’t.

Paid ads should only be used for ads that will make you money

If you’re advertising a product, service or maybe even an affiliate offer. That’s when you should think about using paid ads.

Using paid ads to promote a video that has no clear revenue generating strategy other than adsense is utter folly.

ONLY spend on ads on advertising something that will make you money. Period.

Some experts also think that using paid ads actually hurts your organic reach – I don’t know if this theory holds any water but it’s something to consider.

The thing is, if you try to use ads to promote your videos (that are not actually ads) you will end up wasting your money.

It’s much better to learn how to promote your videos and grow an audience organically using your content. If you want a step-by-step guide on how to do both of these things, you’ll find exactly what you need in “A Gamer’s Guide To Greatness”.
