Why YouTube gaming channels make less money
I ALWAYS warn YouTubers to NOT rely on adsense…
Some people listen, some people are too lazy.
But here’s the thing:
It’s even more important for gaming YouTubers to create other ways to monetize their content.
Why is that?
First of all, let me quickly explain how much I get paid for ads on my channel…
On average, my channel earns around $1 per 1,000 views.
That’s absolutely shxt mate.
At this rate, I’d need over 1 MILLION views a month to even come CLOSE to making a living from adsense (Which is the WORST thing you could rely on).
This doesn’t mean that you’ll earn the same amount…but if you have a gaming channel then I wouldn’t be surprised by similar numbers…
My theory for why my gaming channel’s CPM is so mediocre has always been:
It’s because less advertisers want to spend money on gaming videos…
I mean…only companies in the gaming industry really want to advertise on gaming videos.
But, there’s more to the story that most gaming YouTubers don’t know:
There are options for advertisers to EXCLUDE showing ads on:
- ALL gaming videos
- Livestreams
- Uncategorized videos
And more…
This information is not hard to find.
If you sign up for a google adwords account, you can see these options are available to you when you create a new ad campaign.
I found this while setting advertising campaigns I’m testing out…
As a YouTuber, you GOTTA KNOW this stuff.
It’s safe to assume that MOST advertisers will not want to advertise on your gaming videos.
And, if you livestream… it’s worth knowing that you might make less adsense $$ from going live.
Even worse…if you haven’t correctly told YouTube what your video is about…your video may be “uncategorized” and you’ll earn wayyyy less money.
There’s more:
